Greetings from York!

Today was a down day. Jack and Dru needed to rest, and hopefully cover from the recurring Pony Flu, which Jack is now having for the third time, this time with a runny nose.

Today was sunny! The temperature was chilly, about 40 degrees, with quite a breeze! We had a continental breakfast here, cheese, toast with butter, and Jack had strawberry yogurt. Jack had hot chocolate from the fancy hot drinks machine, and Dru had a cappuccino. It appears the hot drinks machine is available all day long Nice!

Len arrived around 1100, and led us to to the Clifton Enterprise, about a 10 minute drive from here. The combination of big car, a Ford Mondeo, the clutch that was really far away for short legs, and shifting with the wrong hand did bad things to Dru's attitude. Very bad things. She really didn't think she could drive it back for those 10 minutes, but the calm navigation by Jack did the trick.

We changed cars, to a Vauxhall Astra, which is about the size of a Ford Focus. Off we drove, looking for a gas station, because we only had an eighth of a tank. Jack navigated (or sat-nav'd, as they say here) directly to the Asda gas pumps. Dru took a wrong exit on the roundabout while getting there. Sigh. The car was much, much easier to drive than the mongo Mondeo with standard shift. More brainspace was available to work on the wrong side of the road challenge.

Our credit card didn't work, because they needed one with a "chip and a pin." Luckily, very close by was the Sainsbury's petrol station, which took cash, but also took our credit card. We looked around in Sainsbury's a bit; it is really fun to see all the different things available.

Back to the hotel, no wrong roundabout exits this time. We are just going to hang here this afternoon, and go across to to The Toby Carvery for dinner.

Dinner was great!  Mom had Yorkshire Pudding, green peas cauliflower, potatoes and swede; I had turkey and gammon pie.

For desert I had vanilla ice cream with butterscotch sauce and Mom had vanilla with strawberry sauce.

If Dru gets very brave, she will try to visit Mrs. Kay at her dialysis session tonight. That means driving there. We'll see.

Tomorrow we are thing about taking a trip on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, http://www.NYMR.co.uk, from Pickering to Whitby, and have fish and chips in Whitby.
